How frustrating is it when you know you shouldn’t have any more biscuits, but you do it anyway?
Or when you go through the week totally trying to lose a kilo or so, only to have one blow out, and you get to Sunday night feeling down, and the cycle starts again – feeling like you’ve let yourself down, but not knowing how to get out of the cycle?
It’s those self-sabotaging thoughts that we tune into, and seem to rule our life.
Well I for one am sick of it! It’s time to stop that negative cycle and take control
Here’s 3 of my tweaks for a mindset makeover to stop that self-sabotage.
1. Give yourself time to plan.
Funny enough – planning is the lynch pin to so many things – must be why I love it so much.
This tweak is about planning AND time.
You need the time to plan – set some boundaries or time limits on activities that you do (like Facebook!) to create the time for you.
A good way to do this is to schedule in your time for planning.
(And don’t forget that a way of putting yourself first is to value and respect the time YOU need to get things in order and feel more in control.)
Planning is another way of supporting yourself and caring for yourself and your own needs.
When you schedule in your exercise, work commitments, social calendar etc, you can also schedule in your self care, planning time, family time too.
If you know that you can schedule this time, and you know that you have time for you, and that you can use it to recharge your batteries, it creates energy for you, it is a feel good activity, and any feel good activity is going to make your mindset a MUCH more positive and happy one.
(Think of the alternative – no plan for making time for you, therefore no time to recharge, same shit different day, stress builds up = that’s a very different mindset)
2. Every day is a fresh start – DECIDE how you want it to be
I’m a big fan of being proactive.
This mindset tweak is about stopping the passive cycle of life, and CHOOSING to be more enthusiastic, more positive.
Life can pass you by if you are passive in it, so this mindset tweak is to take the bull by the horns (yes, I’m a Taurus) and
choose to be energetic, choose to be productive
CHOOSE how you are going to create your time and energy.
Essentially, you need energy to be productive, to feel great about ticking things off your list, and to keep that momentum going.
3. Separate yourself from your negative side
This is a true mental concept, and one we delve into in Number 1 Mums, but I want to give you a taste of it here.
It’s about awareness, and stepping to the side of your thoughts – separating yourself from them, because just because you think something, doesn’t mean it’s true.
Just because you think you can’t lose weight, doesn’t mean it’s true.
Just because you feel guilty about working late, doesn’t mean you are a bad mum.
Just because you haven’t cleaned the floors this week doesn’t mean you are messy!
When you have the awareness that you are thinking a thought, then you can separate from it and look at it more rationally than just accepting it as real.
This is what I mean by thoughts that hold you back, or that you need to let go of and are not helpful.
They are the thoughts centred about shoulds, and set rules of perfectionism that you can NEVER achieve. When you are in Number 1 Mum, we practice this and really take control of those thought process and work through all the destructive ones, generating strategies to manage them that you will have with you forever.
I know Number 1 Mums can really help you, and I want to support you in the transition from a stressed out mum to one that lives wholeheartedly, authentically and happily – because that’s the essence of you that I want your family to know.
