Why Do We start up online businesses?

For them.

So that we can play, can give them joy, love, and our time, and to have that elusive work life balance.
In the past, I used to work hard in December to set fantastic and exciting business goals, that I can’t wait to get stuck into.   Then school goes back, there’s parent teacher meetings, sports days, other fundraisers, school sport and life all of a sudden gets crazy busy again.  That pretty much sums up January and February, and by March, just as I’m getting into the swing of a routine, school holidays hit again, and I end up entertaining the girls when really I just want to be working.
This cycle isn’t sustainable. It’s just exhausting and stressful.
I’ve been there – constantly catching my tail around work issues, whilst juggling after school sports.  Just supporting my girls as they encounter the usual playground squabbles and confusions about why her best friend doesn’t like her any more takes great energy and time.
The problem?  I was so focused on my business that I end up squeezing everything else in instead of scheduling it and making time for it (and me) that I end up burning out.  I had my ‘Business Blinkers’ on – kind of like tunnel vision.
So once again, I’m turning it around.  I’ve learnt from my mistakes, and have now implemented changes that support BALANCE in my life, business and family.  Now I have that feeling of YES – I CAN do this!
Imagine if you made it to the end of the day and actually ticked off all of the things you wanted to do – which included
  1. something for you
  2. jobs around the home
  3. family time
  4. business tasks.
The secret to achieving this? Powerful Planning

It’s about taking the blinkers off for a minute and recalibrating your GPS.

Think about it…when you were working in an office, it was pretty easy to just focus on your work goals and then come home and switch over to family life.
However, we all know that this isn’t really possible when you work from home.
The lines between work and home are blurred, and although everyone says you must have so much time to get things done, you don’t.  It’s a constant, relentless and exhausting juggle.
Imagine the joy and the pride knowing you are making the right decisions, but also that massive sense of good balance that comes from having made progress in ALL areas of your life.
Usually it’s all good in business but crazy busy at home, or vice versa.

Setting some Gutsy Goals around your whole life means that

BEAUTIFUL BALANCE

can become a reality.

Work Life Balance is THE NUMBER 1 REASON WHY MUMS START AN ONLINE BUSINESS, so don’t put your blinkers on and only set goals for your business that put you under pressure and add to your stress.  You’re only going to take it out on your children and then feel guilty afterwards, and that’s not helping anyone.

It’s Time to Take the Business Blinkers off

Put it into Action :
What do you need to adjust in your current business plan so that you can have better balance?
Are your goals realistic and achievable?
Take some time to double check and really think about if they are going to put you under too much pressure, especially when school goes back, or it’s school holidays and you have little people running around distracting you while you work EVERY 2 minutes like it did to me the other day.
The end result was that I got nothing done, had way too many windows open in Chrome, and just spent my time flicking from one to the other, not sure what I was doing, not focused and TOTALLY wasting time.
