In the beginning of my online adventure, I remember spending days “researching” what everyone else was doing, getting ideas, checking out colours, copy and creativity. However, what I was really doing was comparing myself to others and boy, did that suck.
It just ended up being a non-stop downhill spiral of negativity, and I managed to dig the knife into my own back, and then keep twisting it – Facebook was the main culprit, of course!
I still occasionally fall into that trap, but I am SO much better equipped to learn the signs, and nip it in the bud, before it does any damage.
Comparing myself to others is damaging. It brings up self doubt, “I’m not good enough”, high expectations, “should” try harder, be better, more…. the list goes on. And you can see from this list that NONE of these are helpful, or come from a place of love, support and even rationality.
Online Business Mums
Episode #7 of Balance & Business for Online Mums this week is about comparing yourself to others.
I share my story, and some quick strategies on how to interrupt the thoughts, and turn it around.
It’s just another form of self-sabotage, and you’ll never win, so learning how to break the habit will put you in a much better frame of mind.
Try it and see what you think. I need something physical to break the pattern. You might not, or you might think of something else that you can do to break those self-sabotaging trains of thought.
Jump off that negative train, and find a new route to a positive mindset!
